Aaron Rodgers bemoans the Jets’ offensive struggles this season after Zach Wilson and Co. came up short again in miserable loss to Chargers: ‘We’re just not doing our part’

Aaron Rodgers has blasted the Jets offense ahead of his potential return this season, claiming that it its not doing its part after the heavy home defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers.

‘It sucks when we have a poor performance on offense like that because I know what we’re capable of, I know how we’ve been practicing,’ Rodgers, 39, said on his weekly appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on ESPN on Tuesday. 

‘I know the kind of talent we have an it’s not coming together consistently and that’s why we’re struggling. I mean 191 yards of offense (by the Chargers) and we lose by three score is a pretty wild thing to happen.’

Rodgers then bemoaned his team’s lack of execution in the opposition’s half, adding: ‘It just comes down to situational football. We’ve been bad on third down in the red zone. When you’re bad on third down you’re not going to keep drives going.

‘When you’re bad in the red zone, you’re only getting field goals. It’s the same s***. It comes to execution and the little things and everyone doing their job. […] When it comes down to it, we have to execute.’

Rodgers, who claimed to be ‘a few weeks’ away from recovering from an Achilles injury, lauded the Jets’ defense vs. L.A., essentially saying that sacks and fumbles just didn’t ‘bounce our way.’ 

‘But offensively, we’re just not doing out part,’ he groaned.

The Jets are facing calls from fans to bench quarterback Zach Wilson ahead of next weekend’s vital clash against the Raiders, but head coach Robert Saleh is refusing to do so, adding that it takes a collective effort to get things clicking offensively.

‘There’s only so many things the quarterback has control over,’ he said.

Wilson had no touchdowns for a mere 263 passing yards vs. the Chargers. He was sacked eight times but wasn’t intercepted. The Jets’ offense dropped two fumbles, too. 

Saleh wasn’t too critical of his primary signal-caller this season on Tuesday – 24 hours after the MNF loss – but recognized that Wilson can improve his overall game before hosting Las Vegas at Met Life Stadium next Sunday.

‘I thought overall he was distributing the ball… he can be a lot better,’ said the third-year Jets coach. ‘But it’s lazy to just put it all on him. 

‘It was collective all the way across the board.’
