In early January, the ranking of the British financial publication The Banker was released, which annually awards The Banker Awards to the best heads of central banks and financial institutions worldwide.
In 2024, according to the publication, the best banker (The Banker Central Banker of the Year) was Andriy Pyshnyy, the head of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Usually, such prestigious awards do not go without investment; it is a common practice worldwide. As insider sources told our media, this year’s award cost the winner $450,000, while last year it was only $300,000.
According to the press release, Pyshnyy was awarded for “maintaining the economic stability of Ukraine despite the war unleashed by Russia.” In addition, his success in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund to open a new four-year Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program and its implementation over the years were noted.
It is worth reminding that Andriy Pyshnyy has been the head of the NBU since 2022. During this time, he managed to enter the ranking of the most influential Ukrainians in the USA and actively worked in the sanctions coalition against Russia.
