Florida State’s fifth-ranked football team will look drastically different in the Orange Bowl than from their last game in the ACC Championship.
Multiple players – 24 in total – will be skipping out on the game against sixth-ranked Georgia after being snubbed from the College Football Playoff.
That includes projected starting quarterback Tate Rodemaker – who entered the transfer portal after being put in for an injured Jordan Travis.
Star wide receiver Keon Coleman also revealed that he wouldn’t be playing in the game after he declared for the NFL draft. Not only will Coleman be missing, but so will the other two leading receivers for the Seminoles: wideout Johnny Wilson and tight end Jaheim Bell.
Additionally, leading rusher Trey Benson, cornerback Akeem Dent, and starting defensive linemen Jared Verse and Fabian Lovett will all not play either.
Florida State coach Mike Norvell will be without 24 players ahead of the Orange Bowl
Star receiver Keon Coleman (4) is heading for the NFL Draft and will skip out on the game
Second-string quarterback Tate Rodemaker is transferring away from the Seminoles
It’s been a five-week stretch to forget for Florida State – beginning when Travis went down with a gruesome leg injury in a game against North Alabama.
Rodemaker started the following week and picked up a concussion that kept him out of the ACC title game.
With third-stringer Brock Glenn deputizing, FSU managed an ugly 16-6 win over Louisville to finish the season 13-0 and the champions of a Power 5 conference – more than deserving of a CFP spot.
The CFP committee disagreed. For the first time in its short history, an undefeated P5 conference champion was left out in favor of a one-loss Alabama team.
Georgia will also likely see some players sit out who are draft bound, but head coach Kirby Smart says he’s not expecting many to skip the game.
Florida State plays Georgia at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on December 30.
