A Chicago Cubs security employee was hospitalized after coming into contact with a ‘foreign substance’ on Tuesday, the team has confirmed.
The man in question was taken to hospital after opening a suspicious package at the team’s offices next to Wrigley Field, before suffering an allergic reaction.
Fire officials said the man came into contact with an ‘unknown skin irritant,’ the network said.
That sparked a Level 1 Hazmat call at the Cubs’ administrative offices, with a bomb unit on the scene.
The Cubs confirmed in a statement that the man was a security employee, and said he’s since been released from the hospital.

‘This afternoon, a member of our security team detected a foreign substance that was contained in a small package delivered to our offices at 1101 West Waveland,’ the statement read.
‘We immediately notified authorities which prompted a Chicago Fire Department hazmat response. The employee noticed an allergic reaction and was transported to the hospital as a precaution and has since been released.
‘At this time, we have not been asked to leave the building or shelter in place while the safety assessment and investigation is underway.’
According to ABC 7 Chicago, the man had been taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital by ambulance.
