New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has heaped praise on Jason Kelce as he gears up to face the Eagles star this weekend.
‘He embodies Philly,’ Martindale said of Kelce. ‘Just like the fans, mean but smart.’
‘It’s like playing [against] Peyton Manning,’ Martindale said continued. ‘And it’s not sexy. So [Kelce] doesn’t get that Peyton Manning-type credit.’
‘But he’ll see something, whether it’s a stance, whether it’s a guy putting his mouthpiece in differently, and completely flip a protection,’ Martindale stated about Kelce. ‘So, that chess match is always tough.’
Martindale is in his second season as the Giants defensive coordinator, and still has to go through New York’s two annual games against the Eagles this year.
Jason Kelce ’embodies Philly’ according to Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale
Martindale is in his second year as New York’s DC and has the task of matching up with Kelce
Kelce is two games shy of tying the Eagles’ all-time games played record, held by current teammate Brandon Graham (192).
Both Graham and Kelce recently passed retired kicker David Akers’ 188 games played for Philadelphia.
The Eagles host the Giants on Christmas Day, and their rematch in East Rutherford, New Jersey takes place on January 7.
New York isn’t mathematically eliminated from the playoffs yet, but another loss would likely take away any slim chances the team still has at a postseason berth.
Philadelphia is 10-4 and has lost its last three games, but has clinched a playoff berth.
