Jasson Dominguez suffers torn UCL: Yankees’ rookie sensation known as ‘The Martian’ could face Tommy John surgery – but ‘shouldn’t miss much time during the 2024 season
New York Yankees rookie Jasson Dominguez has suffered a torn right ulnar collateral ligament, manager Aaron Boone said Sunday, meaning the dazzling prospect known as ‘The Martian’ might require Tommy John surgery.
The good news is that, unlike pitchers, position players recover relatively quickly from Tommy John – an elbow reconstruction procedure named for the former Dodgers and Yankees pitcher. As ESPN’s Jeff Passan explained, if Dominguez does have Tommy John, he ‘shouldn’t miss much time next season.’
Dominguez, the 20-year-old from the Dominican Republic, has been a rare bright spot in a dismal Yankees season, hitting four home runs and batting .296 since being called up to the Bronx earlier this month.
